Trchkans Waterfall

Trchkan Waterfall, located on the left bank of the Pambak River on the Chichkhan River, near the Shirak and Lori marzes of the Republic of Armenia. The Chichkhan River originates from the northeast slopes of the Shirak Ridge 2250 meters above sea level. It is 29 km long, the catchment area is 192 km². The interstate valley of the Bazum Ridge flows east. Feeding is melting (42%) and groundwater (35%), flooding is in March-June, during which 62% of annual flow is formed. In the upper stream the shores are low and the river is lowland. It flows through a wide ravine. Trchkan waterfall, also known as Trichkan waterfall or Trchkan water, originates in the middle stream until it enters the deep and narrow gorge. The locals call the waterfall Cran. Located about 10 km northwest of Shirakamut village of Lori marz, it was the epicenter of the 1988 earthquake. It is the highest and most pristine waterfall in Armenia with its 23.5 meters high waterfall and average water consumption of about 1.5 tons per second. Trchkan waterfall has entered the list of natural monuments since 2008, and since 2011 the area has been designated as a specially protected area.
