TSAGHKEVANK, HOVHANNAVANK AND SAGMOSAVAN

Tsaghkevank or Virgo Varvara, a monastery dug in a cave, on Mount Ara in Armenia. There is a spring in Mamrot Monastery, which is said to have healing properties, especially in connection with sight. There is a significant level of zinc in the water, which helps with vision, as well as joint and muscle spasms. According to another legend, there lived a virgin girl named Tsaghik. One of the Armenian princes likes her, wants to seize her beauty by force. The flower is afraid and runs away to hide in Mount Ara. At the foot of the mountain he meets a shepherd who was grazing lambs and asks not to tell anyone his place. The angry prince starts looking for Tsaghik to punish him, he meets the shepherd, the shepherd is afraid of him, he informs Tsaghik about the place of the virgin. Seeing that the prince would reach the flower somewhere, he climbed a huge rock and threw himself into it. At that moment the traitorous shepherd is stoned with his sheep. The chapel on Mount Ara is named after the flower. The water dripping from the roof of the chapel is considered the tears of the Virgin Flower. People come and take it from that water, believing that it will heal the eyes of their animals.

Hovhannavank is an Armenian monastic complex in the village of Ohanavan, Aragatsotn region of Armenia, on the right bank of the Kasagh River gorge, in a high and picturesque place. The monastery is dedicated to John the Baptist. It was built in the 4th-13th centuries. The legend, however, attributes its foundation to Gregory the Illuminator (3-4th centuries). At first, some abbot named it Syugh or Sovi Monastery after Syugh, and the people called it Hannavank. According to Arakel Davrizhetsi (17th century), Hovhannavank was named after the leader of the monastery Hovhannis, who was appointed leader of the monastery by Ghazar Parpetsi. The ancient structure of the monastery is a work of the 5th century, it is a single-nave basilica, the wooden roof of which was replaced by a stone vaulted roof in the 6th century. This church was preserved in a dilapidated condition.

Saghmosavank, an Armenian apostolic monastery complex in the village of Saghmosavan, Aragatsotn region of Armenia. It was built in the 13th century by Vache A. Vachutyan և his ruling family. According to the legend, the first Armenian Catholicos Grigor Lusavorich, noticing this place from the top of Aragats in the 4th century, came here and built a church. Then he gathered psalmists in the same place and taught them psalms.
